teasons
The seasons are a beautiful thing, each one unique and special, and the change in them is something that I absolutely love. This is the reason why I modeled my tea set after them. The first cup shows winter. It is tall, thick, and has no leaves, as winter trees has no leaves and the season is long and rough. The second, the spring cup, is round like an egg, showing new life and has little flowers and leaves, to symbolize the growing season. The summer cup grows tall and long like the days in summer and is painted with lots of green to symbolize the trees. And the fourth cup, the fall cup has leaves flowing off and is short like the days. To tie it all together, the teapot has all of the seasons, one on each branch.
I also made a tray to hold my cups, and the tray has branches decorated with the seasons on it to go along with the theme. I made these because I thought it would be a unique idea and I believe it would not just be a challenge for me, but also fun and eccentric pieces to try out. To make these pieces, I first threw each piece on the wheel. After that, I used coils and scored and slipped to the main cylinders of the teacups to create the branches. I then used tiny pieces of clay to make leaves. For the tea pot, I threw the pot, and hand built the handle and spout.
My hope is that my tea set will help my viewers see that the change in each season is not just something to take for granted because it happens every year, but to reflect on the colors, change, and the beauty of each individual season. How each one is not like the other, and unique in its own way.
